Gigabit Island Project: Road Works / Footway Works Update
We are upgrading our network to full fibre and expanding across the island. The new service is delivered over fibre optic cables which are laid all the way into the home. These cables are laid underground in a narrow trench just a few inches across, mostly under pavements, up to a small access point on the pavement in front of a home or business property. All construction is carried out by qualified, insured civil contractors and is usually completed within a few days in each street.
We will work with households and businesses to ensure there is minimal inconvenience and disruption. We are also working with Island Roads and IW Council to co-ordinate the work with their road improvements and the work of other utility companies – all with the aim of minimising the inconvenience caused.
In the event of difficulty caused by these works in the first instance please speak to the engineers on site. Out of hours, for emergencies, please call the telephone posted on the signs on the road work barriers. This will ensure the most prompt response. Alternatively and for non-urgent queries, please call the our dedicated Gigabit Island telephone number: 01983 241000. Or chat to us online.
