The 2017 Isle of Wight Festival Dragon Boat Race

‘The Price is Wightfibre’ team last year

This Thursday, Island Harbour will be host to the Dragon Boat Race for the third consecutive year. The event is held by Isle of Wight Festival in partnership with Stand Up To Cancer. There will be national and local companies competing on the water in  a series of races leading to a grand final, whilst everyone can enjoy a whole day’s entertainment.

Last year more than £64,000 was raised by the race for Stand Up To Cancer, with 20 teams signing up to take part in the event. The race often attracts the odd celebrity too – Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Caroline Corr and Nicholas Pinnock have all previously taken part.  The giant dragon skull from Game of Thrones which you may have seen at the Isle of Wight Festival sits taking pride of place at the Harbour which is very symbolic for the race.
