Android 7 – What’s New?

Android 7.0 or “Nougat” as it is now known (in line with it’s sweet-themed predecessors), is the seventh major version of the Android operating system for your devices. The new update was first circulating as a beta version for a select few in March last year and was officially released in August, which saw Nexus devices being the first to receive the latest sweet treat. The roll-out is now complete and if your device was eligible for the update, then you will have had a notification – although it could still be an option to side-load it to your older device, but we wouldn’t recommend this.

The most talked about new features that come with Nougat (or Android 7) are:

The ability to bring your words to life with updated and entirely new emoji – plus there’s now the option to use two or more languages at the same time.

You can now switch between apps with a double tap, and run two apps side by side – why not watch a movie while browsing Facebook, or read a recipe with your timer open…

The new Vulkan™ API experience provides high-performance 3D graphics, allowing you to see apps like never before with super sharp graphics and stunning effects.

With VR (Virtual Reality) mode, Android Nougat can transport you to new worlds. (Available on ‘Daydream’-ready phones).

A feature called ‘Doze’ can now help to save your battery power, especially when you’re on the move and not using your phone – your device will go into low power usage while you carry it in your pocket or purse (ideal for Festivals!).
