Avatars are coming to Facebook

This year Facebook is launching Avatars, a fun way for users to portray themselves in messenger chats and comments on posts. The feature will allow users to create completely customised characters to represent themselves whilst using Facebook. The option is currently being trialed by users in Australia, but all Facebook users will soon be able to create them, reportedly by the end of the year or very early next year.

The Avatars have been in development for over a year now, and the latest designs have a polished, 3D look compared to their traditional flat style that you may remember from older versions such as Bitmoji. Unlike Bitmoji however, there are no plans for Facebook Avatars to be integrated into other apps like keyboards, and there’s no feature that lets users snap a photo to get the creation process started.
