Behind the Fibre
At WightFibre, we believe our people are what make us different. Every connection we build, every customer we help, and every bit of fibre we lay across the Island is powered by the dedication, care and expertise of our team.
‘Behind the Fibre’ is our way of shining light on those who make WightFibre what it is. The friendly voices, local faces and committed individuals who work hard every day are something that we’re very proud of.
As part of our Behind the Fibre series, we’re showcasing stories that offer a glimpse into the people behind the network. What drives them, what they love about their roles, and how their work connects with our community.
Meet Matthew from Sales
Matthew Lovett plays an important role in sales, helping customers find the right broadband package for their homes and lifestyles. Guiding them through every step of the process, he really takes the time to properly understand the customers needs, with his friendly and approachable manner perfectly reflecting the community spirit at the heart of WightFibre.

“The thing I enjoy most about working with WightFibre has to be helping people. For a lot of people, the thought of switching broadband provider can be quite daunting, so being that helping hand to guide them through it is something I really enjoy.”
In his video, Matthew shares what makes working for a local company so special. From speaking to customers from across the Island to being part of a close-knit team.
Matthew’s story is a great example of how our people make the difference every day; through genuine care, community connection, and a commitment to doing the right thing for our customers.

Meet Jonathan from Technology
Jonathan Smith is part of WightFibre’s Internal IT and Core Network team, working behind the scenes to help keep the Island connected. Having joined the business straight from school through WightFibre’s degree apprenticeship scheme, Jonathan combines technical knowledge with hands-on experience gained as part of a highly skilled and supportive team.
Starting out as an apprentice allowed Jonathan to study for a full degree while gaining real-world experience in cyber security and information technology. Working alongside experienced colleagues, he quickly developed the skills and confidence needed to take on new challenges and grow within the role.

“From my first day I was welcomed with warmth and enthusiasm, which made my journey from student to professional much smoother.”
In his Behind the Fibre video, Jonathan talks about what it’s like to be part of a close-knit technical team and how being supported throughout his apprenticeship helped shape both his career and personal development. He also reflects on the opportunity to be involved in the growth of WightFibre’s full-fibre network and the impact that has across the Island.
Jonathan’s story highlights how investing in people and providing meaningful opportunities can make a real difference. It’s a great example of how WightFibre supports talent, builds careers, and continues to put people at the heart of everything we do.
