A hero’s welcome awaited Ben Allen yesterday afternoon (15th July,) as he reached the Star War Celebration at the Excel London. Two Storm Troopers met Ben at the foot of the staircase and saluted him as he took the final steps of his 7 day-long journey to meet the jubilant crowd of supporters.
We’ve followed Ben and his support team Simon and Matthew since they left Costa Coffe in Newport last Saturday. As of today, Ben has raised £5,565 from donations, sponsorship and the sale of his Storm Trooper armour on eBay. The team have had a week of great weather, bad weather and everything in between and began suffering from painful feet around day three. Regardless, they walked on, along the way meeting new friends, loyal supporters, and even celebrities!
Ben’s journey has caused quite a stir in local, national and international media, having interviews with BBC Solent, Soho Radio and America’s ABC to name but a few. As well as this coverage, Ben’s feat has been circulating on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, such as Tweets from people that didn’t even approach him, but were confused to see a Storm Trooper walking through their local town!
