In July last year WightFibre announced yet another Island first with news that ten new homes in Wootton will benefit from their brand new 1000Mb broadband which will be delivered through fibre optic cable laid directly into the new homes. The first new occupants are due to move in and enjoy these new services from the end of March.
1000Mb or 1GB is over 30 times the UK average, 6.5 times faster than WightFibre’s previous fastest recorded speed and nearly 13 times faster than BT’s fastest speed. This new installation demonstrates the capability of WightFibre’s network and is just the start of plans to rollout these speeds across the cable network over the next few years.
The new development, named The Wiltons, comprises of ten new two and three bedroom homes in a quiet cul-de-sac in Wootton. They are contemporary houses, finished to a high standard but are designed to be affordable and spacious. The Wiltons are also available for first-time buyers to purchase under the Government’s ‘Help To Buy’ scheme.
Having a 1000Mb connection means that the new owners will be able to download movies and music in seconds, watch content in multiple rooms and use streaming services such as Netflix with no buffering.

It has been announced that in 2018, WightFibre will begin work to bring speeds of up to 1000Mb across the entire cable network. This plan is due for completion in 2020.
