In 2016, Mark Zuckerberg founder of Facebook, set out to create a simple AI to run his home, in his words; ‘…just like Jarvis from Iron Man’. The video above illustrates just some the features that AI integration can make possible.

Zuckerberg has so far created an AI which can be contacted by voice, phone and on his computer, in turn controlling his family’s lights, heating, appliances, music and security. The AI is so effective that it can even learn Mark’s family’s tastes and usage patterns, all the time learning new words and actions. The processes used to achieve this are language processing and speech and face recognition (see image above).

Although Mark has made a very exciting start to his project, he says that worldwide cooperation from the concept stage of production will be necessary for it to prove successful:

“For assistants like Jarvis to be able to control everything in homes for more people, we need more devices to be connected and the industry needs to develop common APIs and standards for the devices to talk to each other.”
