Isle of Wight Weather App Powered by WightFibre

SHARE

In 2013, Sandy Clarke and his Cowes Weather Appdaughter set out to develop a comprehensive Isle of Wight weather reporting service, in response to the severe weather that the Island had been experiencing. Part of this work involved setting up a weather station opposite St Faith’s Church in Cowes which can provide detailed weather reports for the whole island.

Two years later and Vectis Weather’s Facebook page and website have proved incredibly popular, so much so that they are due to launch an app powered by WightFibre next week.

“The BETA version of the app will be released for Android on the 7th October and will be available to download direct from Cowes Weather Website.

The data is updated every 15 minutes and includes: Dawn, Dusk, Sunrise, Sunset, Daylight, Day length, Moonrise, Moonset, Moon Phase, Temperature, Windchill, Heat Index, Dew Point, Humidity, Apparent Temp, Rainfall Today, Rainfall Rate, Rainfall Last Hour, Rainfall This Month, Rainfall This Year, Last rainfall, Wind Speed (gust), Wind Speed (avg), Wind Bearing, Beaufort, Barometer and Pressure Trend.

After the BETA version is released I will be looking at including a number of graphic charts, better user interface and a few other tweaks. Once out of BETA I’ll be submitting the app to the google play store as a free download.”
