*If you choose to have a phone line through us you can keep your existing number when you join us. We only use our own equipment and the phone line connects to our WightFibre Hub. We are not able to liven up any of your existing BT phone sockets in your home.

Telephone
Use your phone how you want and when you want. If you do not add one of the below call packages to your phone line, all the calls you make will be charged at a Pay as You Use call rate. You won't be charged a monthly line rental fee and incoming calls are free. If you use your home phone a lot and want peace of mind on your charges, we offer the below 3 call packages at an additional monthly charge.

Evening & Weekend Calls
Free evening (between 6pm and 8am) & weekend calls to 01, 02, 03, 07 mobile numbers on EE, Vodafone, O2 and THREE for up to 60 minutes. Some 05 and 08 number access charges.

Anytime Calls
Make a lot of calls? Not a problem, we can guarantee you free calls to any 01, 02, 03 numbers and most 07 numbers. This also includes 0845 and 0870 numbers and 07 mobile numbers on EE, Vodafone, O2, THREE and Associated networks.

Anytime International
Free calls to the relatives in Australia, or a friend in Sweden? Yes please. Free calls to over 33 destinations worldwide.

Battery Back-up
Our phone line works through your broadband connection, so you won’t be able to make or receive calls if you lose power at home. If you can’t use a mobile nor have another way to make a phone call, order our battery back-up to power your phone line for up to an hour. Not suitable for cordless phones that require their own mains power to the base unit.

Call Features
Enjoy the flexibility of using your phone how you want and when you want. Going out and don’t want to miss an important call? Not a problem. Below are all the Call Features available to you free of charge:

Call Forwarding
Forward your calls to any other number. Dial *70, followed by the number you want calls diverted to. Remove this feature by dialling #70.

Call Forwarding while busy
Forwards calls if your line is in use. Dial *76 followed by number you want calls diverted to, and #76 to disable.

Call Forward on no reply
Forwards calls if line is not picked up. Dial *77 to enable, followed by number of phone receiving forwarded calls. Dial #77 to disable.

Anonymous Caller Rejection
You may not want to receive calls from those who hide their number. Take note however, that this will
include places such as a doctor’s surgery, hospitals, or certain official call centres. To enable this feature
please call our Customer Service department.

Conceal Number
If you want to hide your number for just the one call, dial 141, followed by the number you wish to dial.

Call Blocker
Prevent nuisance and unwanted calls with advanced call screening, block undesirable callers with a blacklist and allow friends and family straight through with a whitelist.

Voicemail
Simply dial 1571 from your WightFibre phone to activate your voicemail.

If you mostly use your phone during the evening or weekends only, choose this call package. It includes free evening calls between 6pm and 8am and all weekend calls to 01, 02, 03, 07 Mobile Numbers on the main UK mobile networks and most 05 and 08 number access charges. Calls to 0345 or other Premium numbers will always be charged for at the premium rate.

If you use your home phone all the time and would like peace of mind about your monthly call charges, choose this package. It includes free calls during the day as well as in the evening to 01, 02, 03, 07 Mobile Numbers on the main UK mobile networks and most 05 and 08 number access charges. It also includes all our Call Features for free.

If you make a lot of calls on your home phone, including calls to international destinations on a regular basis, choose this call package. It includes free calls to 01, 02, 03, 07 Mobile Numbers on the main UK mobile networks and most 05 and 08 number access charges. It also includes Free Landline Calls to 33 destinations worldwide. Calls to 0345 or other Premium numbers will always be charged for at the premium rate.

Why do we need a battery backup?
Historically, phone lines supplied a small amount of power through copper cables, allowing basic
telephone handsets to function even during power outages. This ensured continuous access to
phone services for making and receiving calls. However, modern fibre-optic cables, while superior in data transmission, do not carry electrical power. Therefore, an alternative solution is necessary to maintain phone service during power cuts.

What could happen during a power cut?
During a power outage, homes with fibre-optic phone services would lose the ability to make and receive calls without a battery backup system. This can be critical, especially in emergencies when contacting emergency services or loved ones is essential. Phone and broadband outages can affect anyone, but some people may face a higher risk of being impacted during an outage. Groups impacted in particular are:

• People who live alone that may not be able to care for themselves,
• or those that rely on personal alarms, and telecare equipment,
• or those that are reliant on their landline, including making calls to emergency services.

Why do you need a battery backup?
If you have telecare equipment or Personal alarms, it is important that you contact your provider to see if they use the phone line, and therefore could be impacted by a power outage to your phone service. Battery backup systems ensure continuity of communication during power outages by providing temporary power to devices connected to the phone line for at least 1 hour. This is crucial for maintaining communication channels, especially for vulnerable individuals who may rely on landline phones for essential communication.

A battery backup won’t help for cordless phones unless the base station is also connected to the backup power supply. Cordless phones rely on electrical power not only for the base station but also for the handsets, making them susceptible to power cuts unless all components are backed up.

Battery Back-Up Options
Depending on which equipment we have provided will determine which of our Battery Backup solutions you will need.

• If you have one of our optical fibre termination boxes (ONT) that has an analogue phone socket built-in, you will only need our small power-plug battery back-up that is designed to work with this device.
• If you do not have a phone socket on the optical fibre termination box, and your phone line is connected into the WightFibre Hub, you will also need one of our slightly larger power bank sized battery back-up units to power this device in addition to the fibre termination box.
