Connecting devices

Can I connect devices to my WightFibre Hub using Ethernet?

Yes. You can connect compatible devices such as computers, TVs and games consoles directly to your WightFibre Hub using an Ethernet cable.

A wired connection can be particularly useful for devices where you want a stable connection and don’t need the flexibility of Wi-Fi.

Can I plug devices directly into my FibreTwist?

No. Your FibreTwist is used to connect your WightFibre service to your WightFibre Hub.

Devices such as computers, TVs and games consoles should be connected to your Hub using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

You may notice additional Ethernet ports on the FibreTwist, but these aren’t intended for connecting your devices.

Can I use a network switch if I need more Ethernet ports?

Yes. If you need to connect more wired devices than you have Ethernet ports available, a suitable Ethernet network switch can be connected to your WightFibre Hub.

The switch should be connected to your Hub rather than to the spare ports on your FibreTwist.

Where can I find my Wi-Fi name and password?

Your Wi-Fi name and password are available in the Plume Home App.

Can I connect with a network cable instead of Wi-Fi?

Yes. If your device has a suitable network connection, you can connect it directly to your router with a network cable.

A wired connection can be useful for computers, games consoles and other devices where you want a stable connection.

It’s also useful when checking your broadband speed because it removes Wi-Fi coverage from the test.

One device works but another doesn’t

If your other devices can use the internet normally, your broadband connection is probably working.

Restart the device you’re having trouble with and make sure you’re connecting to the correct Wi-Fi network.

If you’ve connected the device before, try forgetting or removing the saved Wi-Fi network and then reconnect using your Wi-Fi password.

If the device still won’t connect but everything else is working normally, you may need to check the help information provided by the device manufacturer.

I can’t connect a device to Wi-Fi

Make sure you’re choosing the correct Wi-Fi network and entering the correct password.

Restart your device and try connecting again.

If you’ve connected the device before, try forgetting or removing the saved Wi-Fi network and then reconnect.

You can also try another device. If your other devices connect normally, the problem is likely to be with the device you’re trying to connect rather than your broadband.

My printer won’t connect

If you’ve recently changed your Wi-Fi details or equipment, you may need to reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi.

Restart your printer and make sure you’re trying to connect it to the correct Wi-Fi network.

If your other devices are connected normally, your broadband is likely to be working. Try following the Wi-Fi setup instructions provided by your printer manufacturer.
