Why is my Wi-Fi slow?
Try these steps:
- Ensure your router isn’t obstructed or covered.
- Keep it away from sources of interference such as microwaves.
- Restart the router
- Test again while standing close to the router
If the speed improves close to the router, the issue is likely to be Wi-Fi coverage rather than the broadband connection.
How do I change my Wi-Fi name or password?
When using the WightFibre equipment, you can use the Plume Home app to manage your Wi-Fi name and password.
What to do
- Open the Plume Home app and log-in using your email address. Select the network name to edit the information.
- Choose a strong password, save the change, then reconnect devices using the new details.
Changing Wi-Fi details will disconnect all wirelessly connected devices using the old credentials.
Can I get better Wi-Fi coverage in a large house?
Yes. Thick walls and long distances can weaken Wi-Fi signals, so a large or older house may need additional extenders.
WightFibre’s Plume Wi-Fi system can use several units around your home to provide one network across a wider area. If you already have extenders, you can move these to try and achieve better covered. Note after moving any equipment it may take 72 hours to optimise and settle.
Why is my Wi-Fi slower in some rooms?
Wi-Fi signals get weaker as they travel through your home.
Walls, floors, furniture and distance from your router can all affect your Wi-Fi signal, so it’s normal to see some difference between rooms.
If you have Plume pods/extenders, try repositioning them to improve your coverage.
If you have areas where you regularly struggle to get Wi-Fi, please contact us and we can help you look at your options.
What’s the difference between broadband and Wi-Fi?
Your broadband is the internet connection coming into your home from WightFibre.
Your Wi-Fi is the wireless connection between your router and devices such as your phone, laptop and TV.
My Wi-Fi works but the signal isn’t very good
Try using your device closer to your router. If the connection improves, the issue is likely to be Wi-Fi coverage rather than your broadband connection.
Keep your WightFibre equipment somewhere open rather than hidden behind furniture or inside a cupboard.
If you have Plume pods/extenders, try repositioning them to improve the Wi-Fi coverage around your home.
If you’re still struggling to get a good signal in parts of your home, please contact us and we’ll help you look at your options.
