Does my WightFibre Hub support Wi-Fi 7?
The WightFibre Hub 2 supports Wi-Fi 7.
Don’t worry if some of your devices don’t support Wi-Fi 7. They can still connect to your Wi-Fi using a compatible Wi-Fi standard.
How many Ethernet ports does my WightFibre Hub have?
Both the WightFibre Hub 1 and Hub 2 have four Ethernet ports, allowing you to connect compatible devices directly to your Hub using an Ethernet cable.
The majority of Plume SuperPods supplied by WightFibre have one Gigabit Ethernet port on the bottom.
What equipment will I get with my WightFibre broadband?
All new WightFibre broadband customers receive a WightFibre Hub 2, regardless of which broadband speed they choose.
The Hub 2 supports Wi-Fi 7 and has four Ethernet ports for connecting devices using a cable.
If you’re an existing customer, you may have different WightFibre equipment, such as a Hub 1 or Plume SuperPods.
What is the FibreTwist box on my wall?
The FibreTwist is the box that connects your home to the WightFibre fibre network. You may also hear this called an ONT.
Your WightFibre Hub connects to the FibreTwist and then provides the internet connection to your devices through Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
What’s the difference between the WightFibre Hub 1, Hub 2 and Plume SuperPods?
You may have different equipment depending on when your WightFibre service was installed.
The WightFibre Hub 2 is our current router for new customers. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and has four Ethernet ports and works as part of the WightFibre Plume network..
The WightFibre Hub 1 is still used by some existing customers. It supports Wi-Fi 6, has four Ethernet ports and works as part of the WightFibre Plume network.
Plume SuperPods are also still used by many customers as part of their home Wi-Fi network. The majority support Wi-Fi 6 and have one Gigabit Ethernet port on the bottom.
Will upgrading my WightFibre equipment improve my broadband?
Not necessarily. Having newer equipment doesn’t automatically mean you’ll get faster broadband or better Wi-Fi.
WightFibre equipment receives software and firmware updates automatically, so you don’t need to upgrade your equipment just to receive the latest updates.
If you’re having a problem with your broadband or Wi-Fi, replacing your Hub, Pods or Extenders isn’t normally the first step. Wi-Fi performance can be affected by things such as wireless interference, where your equipment is positioned, the layout of your home and the device you’re using.
If you’re having problems, we can check your connection and equipment before considering whether anything needs replacing.
What do the lights on my router mean?
- Solid white: your router is connected and working
- Flashing white: your router is starting up or updating
- Red: there is no connection to the network
If the light stays red for more than 10 minutes, restart your router. If that doesn’t help, please reach out to Customer Service via Web Chat, WhatsApp or phone.
Note that during a reboot the router will cycle through Blue, Red, Green and when online back to solid white.
Should I leave my router switched on?
Yes. You should normally leave your router, FibreTwist and Plume pods/extenders switched on.
Your equipment is designed to stay connected so your broadband and Wi-Fi are available whenever you need them.
You don’t need to switch your router off overnight.
Can I move my router?
You can move your router within the limits of the cables connected to it, but avoid disconnecting or moving your FibreTwist.
Before moving your router, think about how the new position might affect your Wi-Fi coverage. A central, open position will usually give you better coverage than hiding the router behind furniture or inside a cupboard.
If you’re unsure about moving any of your WightFibre equipment, please contact us before disconnecting anything.
Can I switch off my FibreTwist?
You should normally leave your FibreTwist switched on.
It forms part of the connection between your home and the WightFibre network.
If you’re troubleshooting a connection problem, you may be asked to restart it. Otherwise, you don’t need to switch it off.
