The Isle of Wight Radio Local Hero Awards 2017

Last Thursday (19th October 2017) saw the return of the Isle of Wight Radio Local Hero awards which Wightfibre were extremely proud to be sponsoring for the fifth consecutive year. Judges were inundated with nominations from across the Isle of Wight and the winners were announced at the glitzy event at Cowes Yacht Haven. Awards were presented by Isle of Wight Radio presenters – Paul Topping and Emily Wells.

Wightfibre CEO John Irvine was interviewed after the awards alongside Overall Local Hero Emma Cotter and stated: ‘This isn’t about ‘super heroes’, this is about ordinary people on the Island doing extraordinary things.’

The winners for each category this year are as follows…

  • Fundraiser of the year – Ann Taylor

  • Emergency service person of the year – Olivier Ghesquire

  • Best neighbour – Netty Parsons

  • Inspirational leader – Ben Holbrook

  • Make a difference in the community – Team Pride

  • Sporting achiever – Ian Gregory

  • Customer service – Barry Hindson

  • Tourism ambassador – Jo Richardson

  • Inspirational young person – Gayle Jackson

  • Carer of the year – John Clark

  • Overall Local Hero – Emma Cotter
