WightFibre Celebrates Gold Award at Green Impact Awards

At the recent 2024 Green Impact Awards held at Building 41 in Northwood, Isle of Wight, sustainability-minded businesses from across the Island gathered to celebrate their environmental achievements and ongoing commitment to greener ways of working.

The Green Impact Awards, a national initiative led by SOS-UK, recognises the efforts of organisations and individuals working to create more sustainable environments. The programme encourages businesses to take practical steps towards reducing their environmental impact while embedding sustainability into everyday working practices.

WightFibre is thrilled to announce that we achieved a Gold Award, recognising the work being carried out across the business to support a more sustainable future for the Isle of Wight.

Gold Award Recognition for WightFibre

Receiving this recognition is an achievement we are incredibly proud of. As an Island-based organisation, WightFibre understands the importance of looking after the community and environment in which we live and work.

This achievement recognises the steps we have taken to make environmental responsibility part of our day-to-day operations and wider business ethos. Sustainability is an ongoing commitment, and we continue to look for practical ways to reduce our environmental footprint and make positive changes across the business.

Achieving the Gold Award also highlights the collective efforts of our team. From reviewing everyday processes to considering how operations can become more environmentally responsible, sustainability requires people from across the organisation to play their part.

What is the Green Impact Award?

The Green Impact programme, facilitated by SOS-UK, provides organisations with a structured framework for implementing and developing sustainability initiatives.

Through a behavioural change model, participating organisations are encouraged to adopt more environmentally friendly working practices and monitor their progress towards sustainability goals.

Taking part in the programme has given WightFibre another opportunity to examine how we operate and identify areas in which positive environmental changes can be made. It has also helped encourage a sense of collaboration among team members, demonstrating how small changes across different areas of a business can contribute towards wider sustainability objectives.

Achieving Gold represents the progress made so far, but it also provides further motivation to continue improving.

An Award Made Possible by Teamwork

Receiving this award is a testament to the collective efforts of the WightFibre team, with special recognition going to James Wicks (pictured), our Logistics and Fleet Manager, for his outstanding leadership and commitment to sustainability.

James’ approach to managing our logistics and fleet operations has made an important contribution to our environmental stewardship efforts. His work demonstrates that sustainability does not need to sit separately from everyday business operations. Instead, environmental considerations can become part of the way decisions are made across different teams and responsibilities.

From logistics and fleet management to everyday working practices, there are opportunities throughout the business to think more carefully about environmental impact.

This Gold Award recognises those efforts while providing an opportunity to celebrate the people helping to make positive changes happen.

Gold Award Supports our Sustainability Journey

While receiving the Gold Award is an important milestone, our work does not stop here.

WightFibre remains committed to looking for new opportunities and initiatives that can help reduce our environmental impact and promote positive change within our Island community. Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we recognise that businesses have an important role to play in considering how their operations affect the environment around them.

We will continue reviewing the way we work, exploring opportunities to improve and supporting intiatives that contribute towards a more sustainable Isle of Wight.

Our involvement in projects across the Island also provides opportunities to support other organisations that are taking steps towards a greener future.

Award Recognition Inspires Continued Progress

We are grateful for the recognition from the Green Impact Awards and proud to have received the Gold Award.

For WightFibre, the achievement is not simply about receiving an award. It is recognition of the work already taking place and an encouragement to keep moving forward.

As we continue our sustainability journey, we hope to build on the progress recognised by this award, explore further opportunities to reduce our environmental impact and support positive change across the Isle of Wight.

One recent example of sustainability in action is our work supporting UKSA with its new fleet of electric vans. Check out how we recently helped UKSA introduce its new electric vehicle fleet and continue its journey towards more sustainable operations.
