Many people now have a smart assistant in their house, one of the most popular being Alexa by Amazon. However, if you have an Alexa, do you make use of its wide range of functions or do you just ask to add to your shopping list and play music? Wightfibre NetGem customers may already be familiar with these functions through their voice controls, but we’re here to share some of the lesser-known Alexa commands which may be useful (or amusing) to you!
Star Wars fans will love these
“Alexa, use the force.” — “I’m sorry, but my midi chlorian count is too low.”
“Alexa, I am your Father.” – “No, that’s not true. It’s impossible!”
“Alexa, that’s no Moon.” — “It’s a bad day for Alderaan.”
“Alexa, may the force be with you.” — “And with you.”
“Alexa, who shot first?” — “Han shot first in the original version of ‘Star Wars Episode IV.'”
“Alexa, execute order 66.” — “Yes, my Lord. Hold on, I’m not a clone trooper.”
“Alexa, speak like Yoda.” – “Speak like Yoda I cannot. Master he is, while merely apprentice I am.”
That’s a mouthful!
This number is SO big that perhaps only Alexa can manage it? Have a go for yourself…
“Alexa, how much does the Earth weigh?” – “Earth’s mass is 13,999,999,999,563,792,384,000,000 pounds or 5,973,600,000,000,000,281,081,368 kilograms.”
One for the non-believers
When the children come out with ridiculous accusations about Father Christmas or the Tooth Fairy, you can just Alexa to confirm their existence – she’s got your back.

That’s right! Alexa can play rock paper scissors with you! Ask her for a game and she’ll count you in.
Classic Konami cheat code
If you’re a retro gamer, you’ll love this one. Say “Alexa, up up down down left right left right b, a, start.”
To be greeted with – “Super Alexa mode activated. Starting reactors… online. Enabling advanced systems… online. Raising dongers… error. Dongers missing, aborting.”
A warm welcome home
If you need a friendly greeting after a long, difficult day at work, just say – “Alexa, I’m home!” and it responds, “Welcome home. I hope you’re having a good day.” At bedtime you can say – “Alexa, good night,” and she says, “Good night. Sleep well.”
Learn something new
Just say, “Alexa, tell me something interesting” and Alexa will shower you with her knowledge by way of lots of little facts, they’re usually different every time.
Here’s a fun one to make the children (or your parents) jump! Say, “Alexa, self-destruct,” and she has a few answers prepared, including – “Auto-destruction in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Boom! Hmm, that did not go as planned,” and “I’ll start the self-destruct sequence, but only on the understanding that you dramatically cancel it at the last second.”.
